I can't commit to writing fic for the Help_Japan Auction, so I'm selling my Doctor Who scarf.  The link for the bidding thread is here.

Here's a picture:

[info]wendymr  has reported that[info]honorh  is alive and safe in an evacuation shelter.  No more details are available at this time.

Everyone has been very generous in decorating Honor's profile with "Help Japan" hearts.  As of this moment, there are 72 73 80 88 90 94 98 100 hearts!  What a wonderful "welcome home" message for her!

And don't forget to check out the
[info]help_japan  auction!  I don't think I can commit to write fic, but I will be auctioning off a vintage hand-knit Fourth Doctor scarf.  More details later.
lindenharp: (Default)
ETA:  HonorH is safe!  Please keep adding "Help Japan" hearts to her profile -- it would be great to get the total up to 100 for a welcome home gift.

Everyone's aware of the terrible tragedy in northeastern Japan.  And many of the people on my f-list are aware that [livejournal.com profile] honorh (co-moderator of [livejournal.com profile] betterwiththree ) lives in that part of the country.  She has not been heard from, and is officially on the missing persons list.    [livejournal.com profile] wendymr  has been posting updates on her own LJ.  We all hope that HonorH has been safely evacuated and has not yet been able to contact her family due to disruption in communications.

I'm sure that many of you have already donated to the relief efforts in Japan through your favorite organizations.  LJ has added "Help Japan" to its charity gifts.  The cost is only $2.99.  While we wait and hope for good news about HonorH, I suggest that we express our concern in a visible and useful way by helping the country she loves and filling her profile with "Help Japan" hearts.

If you haven't purchased a virtual gift before, no worries -- it's easy.  Go to her profile.  On the menu to the right, click on "send v-gift" (or just click here).  You can pay in several ways, including Paypal.  The gift can be anonymous.  You can include a message -- or not.

Everyone has permission is encouraged to repost or link to this message in their own journals, LJ comms, and other suitable places.

Like everyone else in Whodom, I'm mourning the death of the talented Nicholas Courtney.  Other than a drabble, I've never written a story in which the Brig is a character, though he's discussed in two of them.  Here are the excerpts, with links to the full stories, if you want to read (or re-read) them.

So I joined drabble_las, my first time in in a Last Author Standing competition.  The prompt was "I'm not bad.  I'm just drawn that way.".  We had the option of doing a fandom-based drabble (any fandom) or an original fiction drabble.  I chose original fiction, because I wasn't quite sure how to apply that prompt to any of my fandoms.  There were 6 drabbles in the Original Fiction category.  I didn't win, and didn't expect to.  I got 10 votes for, which was pleasing, and 4 votes against, which was confusing.  I await copies of the feedback to find out what people gave as their reasons for their votes.  My drabble is below under the cut.  If you want to see the other entries, they're here.

The entries from the first challenge in drabble_las have been posted.  This is a Last Author Standing competition, in which all the entrants have to write a 100-word drabble to a specific prompt.  Anyone can vote -- you just have to choose the best and worst drabble in each category (original and fandom), and give the reason for your choice.

The entries are all anonymous.  I hope everyone on my f-list will go to this link and vote for me someone.  The deadline is Wednesday, February 9th.

Title: A Matter of Trust

Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness
Series: none (This is a stand-alone, and is not part of the Changes!verse.)
Genre: friendship, hurt/comfort

A/N: This was supposed to be a stocking stuffer for
[info]wendymr in the [info]fandom_stocking comm. A short, quick little fic. The Muse had other plans. So here it finally is, a Groundhog Day gift for the fantastic Wendymr.
Betas: The clever, eagle-eyed
[info]yamx and [info]canaana caught many errors, goofs, and plot holes.  The excellent and gracious [info]mimarie  Britpicked and made helpful suggestions.  Any remaining mistakes are mine, all mine.

"It's bad, isn't it?" Rose's face is taut with worry. )

Do You Like To Write?

Like to write? Love writing 100 word drabbles? Great! There is a new challenge, called [livejournal.com profile] drabble_las , where you write a fanfic of EXACTLY 100 words every week based on a different prompt and where all pairings, including slash, is allowed! Then they get voted on and the person with the least votes is out that week and the person with the most is safe the next week till you have one author standing who wins! What do you win? A snazzy graphic and a $10 GC to Amazon or Barnes & Noble. You don't even need to be a GREAT writer!

..who will come out on top?

It's [livejournal.com profile] yamx 's fault.  She twisted my arm and forced me to sign up for the[livejournal.com profile] drabble_las .  (That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!)  I've never considered joining a Last Author Standing competition before, because I can't be sure of finishing a full story in such a short time.  I know I can finish a 100-word drabble in a week, and it's a format that I enjoy writing.  The one thing I'm not sure of is how well I'll do in a multi-fandom LAS where the voters may not be familiar with my fandom.  But that's out of my control.  The rest should be a fun experience.

A/N:
This was written as a stocking stuffer for [livejournal.com profile] canaana  in the fandom stocking comm.  It was meant to be a quick little ficlet, but the Muse had other ideas.  This fic contains no spoilers for the Christmas special, but readers who watched it may wonder about certain details.  I conceived of the basic premise of this fic and was halfway through writing it before A Christmas Carol aired. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] yamx  for the last-minute beta, and to members of the Doctor Who Britpicking comm for certain details, including the title.  Additional author's note at end.

Yeah, I'm doing it too.  I have hung up my stocking over in the Fandom Stocking LJ comm.  Feel free to drop something in it -- a drabble, a greeting, a lump of coal -- or not, as you please.  Meanwhile, I've been having fun making some icons to give away.

Whatever, however you celebrate, I wish you joy and peace and all good things.

All the cool kids are doing it.  Ganked from[livejournal.com profile] wendymr .

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

Title: Haggard, part 2 of 2  (This story is one chapter divided in two parts due to LJ posting limits.)
Author: Lindenharp
Rating: Teen, for some strong language and mention of sexual activity
Characters:
Tenth Doctor, Jack Harkness, Rose Tyler
Pairing: Jack/Rose
Genres: AU, angst
Word Count: 12,182
Spoilers: Bad Wolf and Parting of the Ways
Summary: Parting of the Ways AU.  Jack made it back to the TARDIS in time.  Team TARDIS is reunited once more.  Is it a happy ending -- or will the changes they've gone through tear them apart?

Astute readers will notice that I have borrowed two short pieces of dialogue from Utopia and The Sound of Drums, both written by Russell T. Davies.
Beta: The fantastic and merciless [livejournal.com profile] canaana, who kept pushing me to do better.  Any remaining mistakes are all mine.
A/N: This story insisted on being written.  After I wrote my drabble,
Stranger, I started wondering what happened next.  This story was the result.  I have never written so much so quickly.  It is not part of my OT3 Changes!verse series, and is darker than those stories.  My thanks to [livejournal.com profile] yamx  for support and advice, for putting up with my obsessive word counts, and for letting me use her creation, choree stew (comfort food of the Boeshane Peninsula).  Additional notes are at the end of the story.
