Summary: Why did the TARDIS offer her that dress?
A/N: Written for Challenge #286 in DW100: "Scarlet".  Thanks to canaana  for beta services, and for pushing me to do better. And I'm going to mention again that I am offering 5 drabbles in the Help_Haiti auction. 

He stares at the dress Donna's holding.  "It's ... scarlet."

"I like red.  Just 'cos I'm ginger--"

"Scarlet," he repeats.  "And orange."

"Okay, scarlet.  You said 'wear bright colours to honour the Sublime Poohbear.'"

"Poojah," he mutters.  Why would the TARDIS provide her a dress in Prydonian colours?

Donna studies his face.  Her frown softens.  "Never mind.  Plenty more choices.  It's just a dress."  Her hand lingers wistfully on the hanger.

"Wear it," he blurts.

"What?"

"I--  It's not important.  You'll look brilliant."

He's right.  At the coronation ball, the only thing brighter than Donna's dress is her smile.

Personally, I think she'd look better in teal and electric lime, but who am I to argue with Donna Noble and the TARDIS? For that matter, it was supposed to be Rose in this story, but Donna just shouted "Out of the way, blondie," and took over. What's an author to do?

She does. She hasn't the faintest idea why this dress upsets him. If she had to guess, she'd probably guess wrong (something connected to Rose, maybe), but she'd know there was a problem. Can you tell that I really, really 'ship Doctor/Donna as best mates?

I know...characters are pushy. Brax was supposed to be a minor character in "Spiegel," but he had other plans...

No surprise there. Brax is a brilliant and devious Time Lord, and Donna Noble is a force of nature.

*sighs* I get pushed around by characters I created. Anaphu was supposed to be a walk-on minor character with no lines. Tragan Vehik was supposed to be a minor character, someone for Donna to butt heads with. I was going to kill him off, and the stubborn so-and-so wouldn't die.

I don't get no respect.
