Jack hurls a book to the floor.  "Bullshit!"

"Bit harsh, Captain."  The Doctor stoops, retrieving the book.  "Peter Pan?"

"'To die will be an awfully big adventure.'"  Jack spits the words out.

The Doctor shrugs.  "Perhaps it is.  Not as if we've ever done it."

The immortal stares.

"It's like going to the cinema, walking into the lobby, then out again. Even after a hundred times, you can't claim you've seen the film."

"That is so incredibly stupid.”

"Not my best metaphor," The Doctor concedes.

Jack lets out a rueful laugh.  "I bet it's a really boring film.  With subtitles."

Oh, that's Jack's bitter humour, all right. Admittedly, he does get really, really up close to death, and can describe it better than anyone else alive - even the Doctor. But staying dead? The one adventure he can never have...

Thanks for writing this for me!

Awww... poor them.

This both funny and sad at the same time. :( And in only 100 words - amazing.

You know, the way you managed to combine the fun of both their comments with the bittersweet side of Jack's situation regarding death is really, really well done. Love it!

They have both known many lifetimes of sorrow, and they have both learned to laugh at it. It's a defense mechanism, and neither is fooling the other, but it works for them. Mostly.

Thanks for commenting!

Thank you. This drabble fought back, but I think I tamed it in the end.
