A/N: A certain scene in The Lodger stuck in my mind, and this was the result.  Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] yamx  for the beta!

Two minds touch.  Two beings converse.  One is of this world, one is not.  The Terran is intrigued.  He has never encountered a Time Lord before.

The Doctor is alien, but there is much about him that is familiar.  He is intensely curious about everything.  He explores wherever he pleases.  He greets everyone while remaining aloof.

He can be cruel -- not by intent but by nature.  He takes what he needs without hesitation or apology.  He radiates superiority.

He is like me.  Though the Doctor has undeniable physical flaws, the Terran concludes that he would make a fine cat.

I loved that scene. Interesting that all three New Who Doctors have had their moments with cats. Nine chatted with one in TEC. Ten had a bit of a love-hate relationship with the New Earth cats. And now Eleven has proven he can shoot the breeze with them just as easily (or more) as he can with humans. Yes, the Doctor would make a fine cat.

*dies laughing*

I was already all over this description: He can be cruel -- not by intent but by nature. He takes what he needs without hesitation or apology. He radiates superiority. it's such a perfect description of the Doctor.

And then you sprang the last line on me.

LOL. There is something cat-like about your average Time Lord. I think one of the crack-ier of the NA's had them evolving from cats.

Thanks! I think the Doctor gets along just fine with cats that are not nuns. And may I say... icon love!

I'm not the first to see feline qualities in the Doctor, but this episode reminded me of it very strongly.

Thank you for... errr... dying?

Thank you! I decided there had to be some kind of understanding -- even the Doctor can't compel a cat.

I think DameRuth wrote a story along those lines.

The Doctor would make a fine anything, but I think that he would do particularly well as a cat.

Lovely. I was thinking for a moment "but this doesn't sound like Craig" - in my defence, it's first thing in the morning ...

As long as it didn't jump on your bladder at 5 in the morning, as mine are wont to do!

Poor you. Mine just tells me loudly that it's time for her breakfast. And she usually waits for the first alarm to do so.

You can't help but think that, since it doesn't sound like Craig at all. Craig is not a cat. Craig is a dog. I mean this in the best possible way -- he's loyal and enthusiastic and likes to cuddle on the sofa.

There's no way I could have pulled this off with something longer than a drabble.

that is brilliant, and love the fact that it's actually the POV of the cat :D

Of course it's from the POV of the cat. Stories are generally written from the POV of the most important character.

*flicks tail* SIlly human.

It was a wonderful scene, wasn't it? I started wondering what telepathic contact with a cat would be like, and then it flipped over to "What would the cat think of the Doctor?"

Thanks for commenting!

I think it's hilarious how he gets distracted by petting a cat and somehow manages to pull useful information from such an encounter. And then he acts like this is completely normal.
