Title: The Second Engineer's Tale
Series: Valiant Tales.  Read them in order here.
Rating: PG
Characters:
The Master (Simm), other characters
Genre: drabble
Spoilers: Minor spoilers for The Sound of Drums and Last of the Time Lords.
Summary: A series of drabbles about the people who lived, worked, and suffered on the Valiant during the Year That Never Was. 100 words according to MS Word.
Disclaimer: The sandbox belongs to RTD and the BBC. I'm just playing here, in the corner, making little sand-TARDISs.

Always liked taking things apart to see how they worked: a lawnmower, electric kettle, Gran's cuckoo clock.  At school I liked maths and science best.  Everything has an answer; you just have to figure it out, find the right equations.  When UNIT assigned me to the Valiant, I was bloody thrilled.  Alien technology, like nothing I'd seen before, but there were equations to explain it.

I don't sleep much.  In my dreams I see Japan in flames, smell burning flesh.  God, I need to understand, need this to make some kind of sense.

What are the equations that explain Hell?

Yet another powerful story in a tiny package. It amazes me how you manage to keep coming up with these, and maintaining the high quality.

I'd imagine it would be difficult for a person like that to come to some terms with what happened...

Ah, but you know how he came to terms with it. You know his name, and what happened to him after the Year.

*smiles enigmatically*

Oh that guy? Cool. :) (Spacing on his name, the guy who thought the Doctor was an angel?)

I do, too. Madeleine L'Engle (best known for A Wrinkle in Time) did it many of her books.
