Personal: computer problems

ETA:  I'm back!  The repairman came a little after 9:00 AM, and I was online before 10:00.  I am a happy camper.


A tree came down and took out the wire that connects me to the Internet. (I'm at a library right now.) Repair is supposed to come sometime between 8 AM and 5 PM on Wednesday. If I owe you a comment or email or something -- I'm not ignoring you, I'm just incommunicado.

Ack, DSL? Thankfully I think all our phone cables are underground. In an earthquake zone that has its own problems, though.

Verizon FIOS. It's been working very well for me -- until this tree thing. :-(

In northern NJ, earthquakes are not a major concern.

Generally not, no.

Steve lives on a busy intersection that has a lot of trucks that go by. A truck rumbling a house feels/sounds a lot like the wind up to a largish earthquake. First time I ever met his brother, I'm introduced, and I hear/feel a truck coming. From living on the west coast, my instincts propelled me underneath the closest desk. His brother still teases me about it.

Argh! I'd be climbing the walls! Hope they do get it fixed when they promise - and towards the early end of the estimate rather than the other!

I may yet be climbing the walls. I have books, of course. I'm printing out Chapter 2 (which I'm revising) and the little bit of Chapter 3 I got done. I can write new stuff in Word, and upload it to Google Docs once I'm connected again. I hope the repairs *will* be early. Since I'm taking a Personal Day at work tomorrow, I have to take the whole day. It would be nice if I had Internet access for much of it.
