Summary: She has no notion of the scope of his power.

"No one should have that much power."

She has no notion of the scope of his power.  He could literally write his name in the stars.  He could reshape galaxies.  Far more advanced species than hers might worship him as a god.  Not that he wants worship.  A little gratitude would be nice

No... from Mia and Yuri mere gratitude would suffice.  From Adelaide, he wants more.  He wants her to comprehend who he is and what he can accomplish.

Much later, with the gunshot echoing in his dreams, he realises that she understood him very well indeed.

Definitely packs a punch. Adelaide did understand him, and she understood, as she pulled out her gun, just how wrongly he'd been using his power.

Thank you! Yes, I think that Adelaide understood the Doctor better than he understood himself at that moment.

Dude! But... I desperately truly madly deeply wnat to see what JACK says when he finds out. And I hope the Doctor has the sense to tell him. Ooooooo

I want that, too. I don't know what Jack will say, but I think part of him will be terrified. Who knows, better than he, what a Time Lord without self-restraint is capable of?

Ooh. Captures just how Time Lordy the Doctor can be.

Thanks. The question of the Doctor's power is always fascinating to me. I don't think we know the half of what he could do if he didn't restrict his actions.

Yeah very true. The Big Finish audios kind of hint at what the Time Lords are capable of, but I think it's a good thing for the rest of the universe that they'd rather be left alone.

Or something along those lines. He made such a connection with Adelaide that I think he really wanted to have her accept -- approve -- his actions.

Short, but it cuts to the core of the matter and socks you in the gut. Very nice!

Thank you. Short but gut-socking is my aim for a successful drabble. If I achieved it here, then I'm pleased.

Your use of italics is fascinating -- it conveys the echoing quality of Ten's own voice in his head, giving the first and last lines a wonderful consistency: the conclusion is the logical development of the premise. It is boggling how well you develop a psychological logic. The reader is shocked, gripped, amazed.

Thank you! "waters of Mars" made a very powerful impression on me, so if I've managed to convey even a fraction of that, I'm gratified.

As a regular practice, I use italics to indicate when I'm quoting a character's thoughts rather than summarizing what's going through his mind.
