Jack’s in London when Ianto phones him, reporting misty ‘spectres’ in Llandaff.

“They’re Turvikons. Harmless. Send—“

“Gwen and Owen are en route. Sir.” The last word’s an afterthought.

Jack’s glad his team coped during his long absence, but dammit, he’s back now. “Turvikons hate water. Spray them."

“Wait!” Ianto snaps.

I’m in command! “Owen, spray them!”

Owen curses. “They’re attacking!”

“Find something with a strong odour!” Ianto shouts. Gwen’s bottle of Panache averts disaster.

Not Turvikons. Mrftvani. Deadly when provoked. If Ianto hadn’t checked the archives... Jack shudders. ‘Pride goeth before destruction’. My pride, but always someone else’s destruction...

I still love the ending line, and it still feels a little "fast" to me. I'd love to see what this looks like as a drabble and a half or a double drabble.

*nods* thank you for the suggestion. You know I value your advice. I may rewrite it someday, but there are so many other fics demanding my attention. . .

Maybe next time, Jack won't be so quick to jump to conclusions. His mistakes can cost other people's lives, even if he can't die permanently himself! Thank goodness for Ianto's thorough research.

Yes, Ianto's research is often a mightier weapon than alien tech or Jack's bravado.

Thanks for commenting!
